If this were Robin Williams, it would be an entirely different story. But it's
David Lee Roth. This bluegrass version of Jump is one of the worst things
I've ever seen.

I give him credit for having the balls to do this even though I think it was silly. I have seen worse. Like the bluegrass band that did remakes of Metallica songs. Rock is rock and bluegrass is bluegrass don't try and mix them together. I like them both, but the reason I like them both is because they are different. It seems like the trend these day's is to remake songs and movies these days. No one is coming up with anything original they keep rehashing the same old crap.

I actually liked it. If you can go unplugged, why not bluegrass? Besides, it gave 7 good musicians a job Don A38878.7998148148

The musicians were all great, David lee Roth was equal to himself vocally, i found it rather interesting to see him perform with bluegrass musicians even if it was obvious it was not comfortable for him but it still shows his mind being open to all kinds of music which made it worth listening to IMHO!

Diamond Dave always has his butt cheeks hanging out of the back of his pants!! This guy, I don't know who he is!!! Don't fall for it!!

Actually, it's not bad!!
Besides, it gave 7 good musicians a job
Only 7?

What's the difference between a banjo and a trampoline?

You take off your shoes to jump on a trampoline.

I love bluegrass (and I play it, too) and I loved Van Halen during the DLR years...but that wasn't great stuff. I watched the entire thing, but had to lie down afterwards. ;-)

On the other hand, if you haven't heard John Cowan's bluegrass version of "Running With the Devil", then you haven't given the rock/bluegrass fusion thing a chance. Get the John Cowan song, and then get back with me...

I also play bluegrass and loved the old Roth version of Van Halen, but wow, that's kind of disturbing.

For those that need a reminder of the original.

The music isn't all that bad, it's the singing. Yikes! He just doesn't
stylize the singing at all. I think that's why it's so gruesome.

James, I agree with you. At first I thought it was kind of cool. But then he started to sing and pretty much sounded like a washed up rocker playing at a county fair.

I t takes one heck of a fine instrumental musician to do that and keep a straight face. I don't compare to the least of them.MT( Well, I have had some very pathetically funny things happen during the most horrendous of trials and never cracked, but I can't play any instrument well enough to let anyone who doesn't have to love me hear me)

Well I know the mandolinist was John Jorgensen but who was the singer? Was it the kid from Deliverance sans banjo

Hesh only left out one part: Sing,"Running to the bathroom" to the music of "Runnin' with the devil"

And to think, I thought a .012 string end in the fingertip hurt!

Man, that is sad. I loved Van Halen and Roth was one of the reasons, of course Eddie was the other
He seem like he has no confidence any longer. It seem to be all a put on. In his rocker days he oozed confidence.

Sad.

That is just not right. Poor guy just needs to retire.

Now since we are on a Van Halen topic, isn't this the real reason we all loved them so much, I mean 11 minute solos are just awsome, while smokin' a cig to boot. Now that was Rock and Roll in my day (80's)Rod True38880.9574537037

Diamond Dave has always been a goof ball!! I mean "California Girls" video.... it's always a joke!!

A friend of mine was in a "Marie Callender's", a restaurant chain here in SoCal, when DLR walked in, He's like that all the time. It's always joking, goof'in off!

Actually, It's Michael Anthony you have to watch out for!! That ! Almost ran me over when I was walking out of a Home Base hardware! He was flying right past the front of the store, I stepped out from behind the front post and a 50mph teal ZLR Corvette almost gots me! I was like maybe 2 feet away from his car! True story !!

Anthony used to own a house in the Glendora foothills about 3 miles from my place! I've seen him 3 times!! One of these days, I'll see him again!!!!

Speaking of EVH: At one of the prior NAMM shows, two buddies of mine go into the restroom. Stride up to the urinal to conduct business, and who is about 8 urinals down? Eddie Van Halen. Now one of these guys, we'll call "J" is a guitar freak, a great player, works at a music store - but he is totally awestruck by EVH, an icon of his youth. And THIS is the conversation that ensues (witnessed by the other guy):

J: Oh Man, you're Eddie Van Halen.
EVH: Yep. I'd shake your hand, but I'm kind of busy.
J: Man, "jump" sucked.
EVH: Yeah, I know.

End of conversation. They washed up and walked out. The claim it to be a true story.

Frightening.

Those bluegrass guys were really good..but DLR stank up the stage. That vocal performance was painful to listen to...

I watched the 11 minute solo. It's pretty cool. I just wonder if it would
start to feel corny doing that every night.
